Mupirocin (myoo-PEER-oh-sin) Treats skin infections. Belongs to a class of drugs called antibiotics.

When To Not Use Bactroban (Topical)

You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to mupirocin.

How Should You Use Bactroban (Topical)

Ointment, Cream

  • Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use and how often.
  • Mupirocin should not be applied to large open wounds or to burns.
  • This medicine is for use on your skin only. You should not use in or around eyes.
  • Wash and dry the treated area before application.
  • Put a thin layer of the ointment on your skin. Rub it in gently.
  • This medicine may be covered with a gauze bandage after it is applied.
  • If a dose is missed:
  • Apply the missed dose as soon as possible.
  • If it is almost time for your next regular dose, wait until then to put the medicine on and skip the missed dose.
  • Do not apply two doses at the same time.

Store Bactroban (Topical) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep Bactroban (Topical) and all medications out of the reach of children.

What To Avoid While Using Bactroban (Topical)

  • Do not put anything else on the skin where you are using the mupirocin unless approved by your doctor.
