Ambisome (Injection) is used for the Treatment
Amphotericin B Liposome (am-foe-TER-i-sin B LYE-poh-some) Treats infections caused by a fungus or parasite.
When To Not Use Ambisome (Injection)
You should not receive this medicine if you have ever had an allergic reaction to amphotericin B.
How Should You Use Ambisome (Injection)
Injectable
- Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given. This medicine is given through a needle placed in one of your veins.
- This medicine is given slowly, so your IV needle will usually need to stay in place for 1 to 2 hours.
- A nurse or other trained health professional will give you this medicine. It may also be given by a home health caregiver.
- Never share your medicine with anyone. If a dose is missed:
- This medicine needs to be given on a fixed schedule. If you miss a dose or forget to use your medicine, call your doctor, home healthcare provider, or pharmacist for instructions.
Proper Ambisome (Injection) Storage
Store Ambisome (Injection) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep Ambisome (Injection) and all medications out of the reach of children.
What To Avoid While Using Ambisome (Injection)
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are also using other antifungal medicines (such as Ancobon®, Nizoral®, or Monistat®), cancer medicines, corticosteroids (such as prednisone or cortisone), corticotropin (ACTH), digoxin (Lanoxin®), or muscle relaxants.
Ambisome (Injection) Warnings
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Your doctor may want to do lab tests while you are receiving this medicine, to check for unwanted effects. Be sure to keep all appointments.
Ambisome (Injection) Side Effects
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in face or hands, swelling or tingling in the mouth or throat, tightness in chest, trouble breathing
- Fast or irregular heartbeat
- Fever and chills or shaking
- Severe nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
- Trouble breathing
- Unusual tiredness or weakness If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Headache
- Mild nausea or upset stomach, diarrhea
- Swelling, pain, or redness where the IV needle is placed
