Classification: Antipsychotic, dimethylaminopropyl-type phenothiazine

Action/Kinetics: Produces high incidence of anticholinergic, sedative, and antiemetic effects; moderate extrapyramidal and hypotensive effects.

Uses: Severe N&V.; Psychotic disorders (do not use for psychotic disorders with depression).

Contraindications: Use for psychoses in children less than 2.5 years of age.

Special Concerns: Use during pregnancy only if benefits clearly outweigh risks. Dosage has not been established for children less than 30 months of age. IV use not recommended for children because of hypotension and rapid onset of extrapyramidal side effects. Geriatric, emaciated, or debilitated clients may require a lower initial dose.

How Supplied: Injection: 10 mg/mL, 20 mg/mL

Dosage
?IM Psychoses.
Adults and adolescents: 60 mg up to maximum of 150 mg/day. Pediatric: 0.2-0.25 mg/kg to maximum of 10 mg/day.
N&V.;
Adults and adolescents: 5-15 mg as single dose repeated q 4 hr up to maximum of 60 mg/day (for elderly or debilitated clients: 2.5 mg up to maximum of 15 mg/day). Pediatric, over 2 1/2 years: 0.2-0.25 mg/kg up to maximum of 10 mg/day.
?IV Psychoses.
Adults and adolescents: 1 mg as required, up to a maximum of 3 mg/day.
