Classification: Antihypertensive, angiotensin II receptor antagonist See Also: See also Angiotensin II Receptor Antagonists and Antihypertensives. Action/Kinetics: Over 99.5% bound to plasma protein. Control of BP in blacks is less than in whites. t 1/2, terminal: About 24 hr. Excreted mainly in the feces by way of the bile. Uses: Treat hypertension Special Concerns: Use with caution in impaired hepatic function or in biliary obstructive disorders. Side Effects: GI: Diarrhea, dyspepsia, heartburn, N&V;, abdominal pain. CNS: Dizziness, headache, fatigue, anxiety, nervousness. Musculoskeletal: Pain, including back and neck pain; myalgia. Respiratory: URI, sinusitis, cough, pharyngitis, influenza. Miscellaneous: Chest pain, UTI, peripheral edema, hypertension. Laboratory Test Alterations: Creatinine (in small number of clients). Hemoglobin. Overdose Management: Symptoms: Hypotension, dizziness, tachycardia or bradycardia. Treatment: Supportive for hypotension. Drug Interactions: Digoxin peak plasma and trough levels.
