Action/Kinetics:
Intermediate-acting. Is five times more potent than hydrocortisone and cortisone. Minimal side effects except for GI distress. Moderate mineralocorticoid activity.

Use with particular caution in diabetes.
How Supplied:
Prednisolone:
Syrup: 5 mg/5 mL, 15 mg/5 mL;
Tablet: 5 mg.
Prednisolone acetate:
Injection: 25 mg/mL, 50 mg/mL;
Ophthalmic Suspension: 0.12%, 0.125%, 1%.
Prednisolone sodium phosphate:
Liquid: 5 mg/5 mL;
Ophthalmic Solution: 0.125%, 1%.
Prednisolone tebutate:
Injection: 20 mg/mL.
Dosage
Prednisolone

Most uses.
5-60 mg/day, depending on disease being treated.
Multiple sclerosis (exacerbation).
200 mg/day for 1 week;
then, 80 mg on alternate days for 1 month.
Pleurisy of tuberculosis.
0.75 mg/kg/day (then taper) given concurrently with antituberculosis therapy.

Instill 1-2 gtt into the conjunctival sac b.i.d.-q.i.d. During the first 24 to 48 hr, the frequency of dosing may be increased if necessary.
