Classification: Anticonvulsant, succinimide type

Action/Kinetics: Peak levels: 1-4 hr. t 1/2: 1-3 hr for methsuximide and 36-45 hr for the active metabolite. Therapeutic serum levels: 10-40 mcg/mL.

Uses: Treat absence seizures refractory to other drugs. May be given with other anticonvulsants when absence seizures coexist with other types of epilepsy.

Additional Side Effects: Most common are ataxia, dizziness, and drowsiness.

Additional Drug Interactions: Methsuximide may the effect of primidone.

How Supplied: Capsule: 150 mg, 300 mg

Dosage
?Capsules Absence seizures.
Adults and children, initial: 300 mg/day for first week; then, if necessary, increase dosage by 300 mg/day at weekly intervals until control established. Maximum daily dose: 1.2 g in divided doses.
