Classification: Dermatologic agent Action/Kinetics: Mechanism of action is unknown. Less than 1%-2% is absorbed through the skin over a 4-day period following application. Uses: Actinic (solar) keratoses. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to masoprocol or other ingredients in the formulation. Use with an occlusive dressing. Special Concerns: Use with caution during lactation. Safety and efficacy have not been determined in children. The presence or absence of local skin reactions does not correlate with effectiveness of the drug. Side Effects: Dermatologic: Commonly, erythema, flaking, itching, dryness, edema, burning, soreness, allergic contact dermatitis. Also, bleeding, crusting, eye irritation, oozing, rash, soreness, skin irritation, stinging, tightness, tingling, blistering, eczema, fissuring, leathery feeling to the skin, skin roughness, wrinkling, excoriation.
