Action/Kinetics: Contains zinc insulin crystals modified by protamine, appearing as a cloudy or milky suspension. Not recommended for emergency use. Not suitable for IV administration or in the presence of ketosis. Onset: 1-1.5 hr. Peak: 4-12 hr. Duration: Up to 24 hr. Note: NPH beef/pork insulins are being phased out.

How Supplied: Injection: 100 U/mL

Dosage
?SC Diabetes.
Adult, individualized, usual, initial: 7-26 units as a single dose 30-60 min before breakfast. A second smaller dose may be given, if needed, prior to the evening meal or at bedtime. If necessary, the daily dose may be increased in increments of 2-10 units at daily or weekly intervals until desired control is achieved.
Clients on insulin zinc may be transferred directly to isophane insulin on a unit-for-unit basis. If client is being transferred from regular insulin, the initial dose of isophane should be from two-thirds to three-fourths the dose of regular insulin.
