Action/Kinetics: Has a greater stimulating activity on beta-2 receptors of the bronchi than on beta-1 receptors of the heart. Causes relief of bronchospasms. Inhalation: Onset, within 5 min; peak effect: 15-60 min; duration: 2-3 hr. Partially metabolized; excreted in urine.

Uses: Bronchial asthma, bronchospasms due to chronic bronchitis or emphysema, bronchiectasis, pulmonary obstructive disease.

Special Concerns: Safety and efficacy have not been established in children less than 12 years of age.

How Supplied: Isoetharine hydrochloride: Solution: 1%

Dosage
?Inhalation Solution, 1% Hand nebulizer.
Adults: 3-7 inhalations of the undiluted solution.
Oxygen aerosolization.
Adults, usual: 0.5 mL (range: 1-2 mL of 1:3 dilution). Give with oxygen flow adjusted to 4-6 L/min over 15-20 min.
IPPB.
Adults, usual: 0.5 mL (range: 1-4 mL of 1:3 dilution). Usual inspiratory flow rate is 15 L/min at a cycling pressure of 15 cm H 2O. May be necessary (depending on client and tyupe of IPPB apparatus) to adjust flow rate to 6-30 L/min and cycling pressure to 10-15 cm H 2O (further dilution may also be required).
