Action/Kinetics: Fexofenadine, a metabolite of terfenadine, is an H 1-histamine receptor blocker. Low to no sedative or anticholinergic effects. Onset: Rapid. Peak plasma levels: 2.6 hr. t 1/2, terminal: 14.4 hr. Approximately 90% of the drug is excreted through the feces (80%) and urine (10%) unchanged.

Uses: Seasonal allergic rhinitis, including sneezing; rhinorrhea; itchy nose, throat, or palate; and itchy, watery, and red eyes in adults and children 12 years of age and older.

Special Concerns: Use with care during lactation. Safety and efficacy have not been determined in children less than 12 years of age.

Side Effects: CNS: Drowsiness, fatigue, headache. GI: Nausea, dyspepsia. Respiratory: Sinusitis, throat irritation, pharyngitis. Miscellaneous: Viral infection (flu, colds), dysmenorrhea.

Drug Interactions: No differences in side effects or the QTc interval were observed when fexofenadine was given with either erythromycin or ketoconazole.

How Supplied: Capsule: 60 mg

Dosage
?Capsules Seasonal allergic rhinitis.
Adults and children over 12 years of age: 60 mg b.i.d. In clients with decreased renal function, the initial dose should be 60 mg once daily.
