Classification: Corticosteroid, glucocorticoid-type

Action/Kinetics: Possesses both glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid activity. Short-acting. t 1/2, plasma: 30 min; t 1/2, biologic: 8-12 hr.

Uses: Replacement therapy in chronic cortical insufficiency. Short-term (due to strong mineralocorticoid effect) for inflammatory or allergic disorders. Sterile suspension: Congenital adrenal hyperplasia in children.

Special Concerns: Use during pregnancy only if benefits outweigh risks.

How Supplied: Injection: 50 mg/mL; Tablet: 5 mg, 10 mg, 25 mg

Dosage
?Tablets, Injection Initial or during crisis.
25-300 mg/day. Decrease gradually to lowest effective dose.
Anti-inflammatory.
25-150 mg/day, depending on severity of the disease.
Acute rheumatic fever.
200 mg b.i.d. day 1, thereafter, 200 mg/day.
Addison's disease.
Maintenance: 0.5-0.75 mg/kg/day.
