Classification: Broad-spectrum topical antifungal Action/Kinetics: At lower concentrations the drug blocks the transport of amino acids into the cell, whereas at higher concentrations the cell membrane of the fungus is altered so that intracellular material leaks out. May also inhibit synthesis of RNA, DNA, and protein in growing fungal cells. A small amount of drug is absorbed through the skin; it also penetrates to the sebaceous glands and dermis as well as into the hair. Uses: Effective against dermatophytes, yeast, Malassezia furfur, Trichophyton rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum canis and Candida albicans that cause tinea pedis, tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea versicolor, candidiasis. Contraindications: Use in or around the eyes. Special Concerns: Safety and efficacy in lactation and in children under 10 years of age not established. Side Effects: Dermatologic: Irritation, redness, burning, pain, skin sensitivity, pruritus at application site. How Supplied: Cream: 1%; Gel; Lotion: 0.77%, 1%
