Uses:
(1) Pharyngitis and tonsillitis due to
Streptococcus pyogenes. (2) Acute bacterial sinusitis due to
Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Haemophilus influenzae (including ß-lactamase producing strains)
and
Morazella catarrhalis (including ß-lactamase producing strains)
. (3) Otitis media caused by
S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae and
M. catarrhalis. (4) Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections due to
S. aureus (including penicillinase-producing strains) and
S. pyogenes. (5) Secondary bacterial infection of acute bronchitis and acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis due to
S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae (beta-lactamase positive and negative strains), and
M. catarrhalis.
How Supplied:
Powder for Reconstitution: 125 mg/5 mL, 250 mg/5 mL;
Tablet: 250 mg, 500 mg
Dosage

Pharyngitis, tonsillitis.
Adults and children over 13 years of age: 500 mg q 24 hr for at least 10 days (for
S. pyogenes infections, give 10 or more days).
Children, 2-12 years of age: 7.5 mg/kg q 12 hr for at least 10 days (for
S. pyogenes infections,give 10 or more days).
Acute sinusitis.
Adults and children over 13 years of age: 250 mg q 12 hr or 500 mg q 12 hr for 10 days. Use the higher dose for moderate to severe infections.
Children, 6 months-12 years of age: 7.5 mg/kg q 12 hr or 15 mg/kg q 12 hr for 10 days. Use the higher dose for moderate to severe infections.
Secondary bacterial infections of acute bronchitis and acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis.
Adults and children over 13 years of age: 500 mg q 12 hr for 10 days.
Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections.
Adults and children over 13 years of age: Either 250 mg q 12 hr, 500 mg q 24 hr, or 500 mg q 12 hr (all for a duration of 10 days).
Children, 2-12 years of age: 20 mg/kg q 24 hr for 10 days.
Otitis media.
Infants and children 6 months-12 years: 15 mg/kg q 12 hr for 10 days. |
