Will cefpodoxime pass through breast milk?


a friend of mine is breast feeding a 4 month old baby. she wondering if its ok for her to take cefpodoxime. will it pass through the breast, and if so will it harm the 4 month old child?

Action/Kinetics: t 1/2, after PO: 2-3 hr. From 29% to 33% is excreted unchanged in the urine.

Uses: (1) Acute, community-acquired pneumonia due to Streptococcus pneumoniae or Hemophilus influenzae (non-ß-lactamase-producing strains only). (2) Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis caused by S. pneumoniae non-beta-lactamase-producing H. influenzae or M. catarrhalis. (3) Acute otitis media caused by S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae (including beta-lactamase-producing strains), and Moraxella catarrhalis. (4) Pharyngitis or tonsillitis due to Streptococcus pyogenes. (5) Acute, uncomplicated urethral and cervical gonorrhea caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae (including penicillinase-producing strains). (6) Acute, uncomplicated anorectal infections in women due to N. gonorrhoeae (including penicillinase-producing strains). (7) Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections due to Staphylococcus aureus (including penicillinase-producing strains) or S. pyogenes. (8) Uncomplicated UTIs (cystitis) due to Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis or Staphyloccus saprophyticus. (9) Mild-to-moderate acute maxillary sinusitis.

How Supplied: Granule for Reconstitution: 50 mg/5 mL, 100 mg/5 mL; Tablet: 100 mg, 200 mg

Dosage
?Tablets, Suspension Acute community-acquired pneumonia.
Adults and children over 13 years: 200 mg q 12 hr for 14 days.
Acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis.
Adults and children over 13 years: 200 mg q 12 hr for 10 days. Use the tablets.
Uncomplicated gonorrhea (men and women) and rectal gonococcal infections (women).
Adults and children over 13 years: Single dose of 200 mg.
Skin and skin structure infections.
Adults and children over 13 years: 400 mg q 12 hr for 7-14 days.
Pharyngitis, tonsillitis.
Adults and children over 13 years: 100 mg q 12 hr for 5-10 days. Children, 5 months-12 years: 5 mg/kg (maximum of 100 mg/dose) q 12 hr (maximum daily dose: 200 mg) for 5-10 days.
Uncomplicated UTIs.
Adults and children over 13 years: 100 mg q 12 hr for 7 days.
Acute otitis media.
Children, 2 months-12 years: 5 mg/kg q 12 hr for 5 days.
