There are two things that you should do. First, visit Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and use their Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculator and calculate you corresponding BMI-for-age percentile on a BMI-for-age growth chart.
Secondly, you should also visit Discovery Health and enter The National Body Challenge. The National Body Challenge is shown on the Discovery Health Channel and teaches people like you and me how to incorporate proper Nutrition and Exercise into our daily life - now and forever.
Before watching the show, I thought this show would be like the ordinary Richard Simmons type exercise program, but once I seen its first episode, I now, watch it regulary. It blows my mind to see how educating it is and how much fun it is to watch; just watching the show, I get so excited that I start jumping up and down doing jumping jacks and push-ups, motivated by other people's sucess in achieving their goals.
At the beginning of the show, the person's weight is taken. If they are 20 lbs overweight, they are put on an aggressive 10 week challenge to loose 2 lbs per week.
This has taught me about alot about health problems that I once thought was disease related, but is actually a result of being -just plain- lazy. It also shows how simple it is to loose weight and get into shape and how surprisingly, it doesn't take a lot of time.
The results are fabulous. With the show, you get to see the struggles that each person goes through in their challenge and you actually experience the challenge with them.
This helps to asure you that you are not crazy, eventhough the lifestyle that you live eachday (overweight, unconditioned, and poor eating habits) causes you to behave as if you were. I would definately recommend that you use this as a resourse and not attempt to diet and exercise without the helpful tips and support from these trained professionals.
Hope this answers your question!
The Prison Hospital
Prisoner: Look here, doctor! You've already removed my spleen, tonsils, adenoids, and one of my kidneys. I only came to see if you could get me out of this place!
Doctor: I am, bit by bit.
