I have been having sleeping problems. No matter how tired I am, I still find myself wide awake even if I closed my eyes hoping that I would just doze off to a deep sleep. It seems that my body is tired but my mind is still active. Then if ever I feel asleep it is not that deep, I easily get awaken my small sounds. And also even if I slept already late like one time I came home from a party and slept at around 4am I still woke up at my usual waking time at 8am. Any explaination for this and some advice would be of help. Thanks.

It's probably just from stress.

I've had trouble sleeping for the last 5 to 7 years or so.

I've tried quite a bit of over-the-counter medicine to help me sleep. Usually, the medicine would only work for a while and then my body would get used to it and it wouldn't be effective.

Then, I asked my brother (a pharmacy tech.) and he suggested melatonin. Try it, it's worked for me for months now, and it usually puts me to sleep within an hour of taking it. Although, I've noticed that i'll usually only sleep for about 4 to 6 hours before waking up again. So if you want more sleep than that, don't take another whole pill when you wake up, take half a pill and it won't knock you out for another 4 to 6 hours or more. (the pills should be in 3mg or 5mg, depending on what you get)

I've heard good things about melatonin also. I have thought about trying it. It seems so hard to fall alsleep sometimes, especially when you have so many things to do.

The reason may be in your tension. I also experienced some insomnia and my Doc told me to try taking such anti-anxiety meds as Xanax or Rivotril. Now I have ordered Rivotril for the second time as it was very helpful for me. I am going to try Xanax as well to understand what is better for me but anyway I do not want to use them regularly, I take them just when I feel the necessity and I am quite satisfied so far.
