My 12 month old just had PE Tubes put in. She now has a lot of
drainage in her nose and throat which causes her to choke and vomit.
Is this normal and how long will it last if so? Jill

Hey jill, how are you doing? If no eardrops were prescribed and the
drainage persists for more than 4 days after surgery call the office.
The ears will often drain for 3-4 days after the surgery. Nauseous
or have an upset stomach after surgery is also common and usually
disappear after one day and are from the anesthesia. The nurses can
provide you with an emesis basin to take home in case your child
becomes car sick. If after your follow-up visit with the doctor
your child develops drainage, call your pediatrician/family doctor.
Call also if your child develops recurrent infections or if the
drainage does not stop after 5 days of antibiotics. Best wishes,
