Stay on birth control? Quote | Reply

I went on orth tricyclin lotwo months ago for two reason: 1.
controlling birth and 2. controlling acne. Its doing the first one
fine but it has made my skin horrible. I am considering switching-how
long should I stick it out with OTC lo?

Hey frustrated, how are you doing? Skin rash, acne, or brown spots
on the skin are side effects of Ortho Tri-Cyclen that usually do not
require medical attention, but may consue an allergic reaction (report
to your health care provider). Acne usually improves by 40-50% by the
third cycle and by 80-90% by the ninth cycle. Patient information
in women that are caused or aggravated by androgenic hormones includes
acne. Hormonal regimes effective for androgenic skin conditions
include Cyproterone acetate with ethinyloestradiol (Diane-35, Estelle
35), Other low-dose combined oral contraceptives, and Cyproterone
acetate 50 - 200 mg (Androcur, Procur - available only on a
specialist's prescription). Physical methods of hair removal such
as waxing, shaving, electrolysis or laser epilation, can be used at
the same time as anti-androgens are taken. They often work better than
prior to the medication. Best wishes,

Hey! I had acne ever since I have been 12 years old, and it never went away. Now I am 20 years old, and about a year ago I went on Ortho-Tricyclin...after about 6 or 7 months my face cleared up for the first time in 8 years. It took a while to see the effects, but once it starts working, the results are amazing. My face has completely cleared up, and going on birth control finally did that. I used absolutly EVERYTHING before, every lotion, cleanser, antibiotics, and nothing worked. I was considering going on Acutane, but I had to take birth control while taking it anyway, so I decided to see the difference by just using birth controll. It worked for me, and I hope that you see the same results soon

Two months isn't long enough for your body to adjust. Wait it out a couple more cycles and you should know by then whether you are having good results. Drink a lot of water all the while. Water is so cleansing for the skin. When I was a teen with bad acne, they put me on Tetracycline. I was on it for a good year or longer but then quit since it didn't do any good for me at all. I took Vitamin E tablets and my skin cleared considerably.

I experienced the same problem as you. When I first went on birth control, my doctor gave me ortho tricyclin low. After taking it for 5 months, I noticed that my face was extremely broken out and terrible. I was embarassed and ashamed. I then decided to switch to Ortho TriCyclen, which is the one that actually does help your face. (i did not know this when I first began). Now I take Ortho TriCyclen along with Benzaclin cream (it does wonders), and my my face is clear and acne free!
