My friend is about to start taking this drug (for thrombocythemia). I would like to hear what experiences people have had with side effects. Thank you, Gwen |

Hey there Gwen,
My aunt took Hydroxyurea about 6 months ago, now she is taking something else for further treatment.
She mentioned nausea and slight fever while taking the Hydroxyurea. I think that was about it besides just a loss of appetite, which she said was normal from taking Hydroxyurea.
Good luck if you decide to take it. Let us know your experiences afterwards.

Hey gwen, how are you doing?
The most studied dose is 500mg twice a day, which is shown to have relatively few side effects. Studies are now planned to determine the optimal dose and dose scheduling for this drug.
Hydroxyurea may make you feel generally unwell. When given alone or with other chemotherapy agents, hydroxyurea may decrease your body's ability to fight infections or increase your risk to bruise or bleed.
Call your prescriber or health care professional if you notice any unusual bleeding. Be careful not to cut, bruise or injure yourself because you may get an infection and bleed more than usual.
