I just switched to Tri-Sprintec after using Otho Tri-Cyclen for 6 years. It's the new generic. I've been on it for one week, and suddenly I've been breaking out with hives. Has anyone else experienced this with this medication? |

Hi tory,
I've been using Tri-Sprintec for a few months now. I haven't experienced anything like you mention, but I did get some hot flashes when I switched. My primary said it was quite possibly the switch from one birth control to the other...
I haven't gotten any more after a week or so being on them. You might ask the doctor if they have any documentation on it. It could be just a simple allergic reaction, but always safe to check into it further.
Thanks

I am about to take tri-sprintec, and I was just wondering if anyone has had any serious weight gain, because I'm going to be getting married in a few months, and gaining weight is the last thing I need on my mind. |

I started taking Tri-Sprintec in early March and have not had any of the side effects that are common with oral contraceptives. I have noticed because I have increased my exercise routine in the past few months that I have lost weight and continue to drop. |

I am in the same situation as you - I was on ortho-tri-cyclen for 6 years, and just switched to tri-sprintec. I am on week 3, but now I am having pretty bad brown discharge - is this common? Or is it just the switch? |

My daughter's doctor prescribed Ortho Tri-Cyclen since she has unusually heavy and long cycles. My daughter's 14 and the doctor felt a 3 month run of it could help regulate her. Also, the effect it has on acne was considered an additional benefit. However, upon reaching home, (I know...I should have checked before leaving the pharmacist) we noticed her prescription ws for Tri-Sprintec. Does this have the "acne"benefit as well? |

If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking the birth control pills and seek emergency medical attention or contact your doctor immediately: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives) |

I decided to switch to Tri-Sprintec about a year ago to save money instead of buying the name brand (Tri-Cyclene). I noticed no changes from it at all really. I've been taking it regularly and it seems to be having the same effect on me as the name brand. No weight gain, no acne return. You should definitely consult your doctor if you are having major side effects. While generic medicines are right for SOME people, they don't have the same effect on others, so just because Tri-Cyclene worked for you, doesn't mean Tri-Sprintec will be the same. For me, it is definitely a cheaper alternative to the name brand. |

Hi...I started Tri-sprintec about 6 months ago and I am noticing that I am starting to grow hair on my face and chest. I was on orthotricyclen for 6 years before that and never had a problem. My insurance refuses to pay for the name brand because they claim it is the same. Is this normal or has anyone else had these problems? |

I just started taking tri-sprintec. Come Sundy it will be my second week on it. Latley, I've been having those hot flashes as some of you have described already...along with some weird yellow, foul discharge and feel bloated a lot especially when it's hot and as far as hives and rash go I had that the first week, but it seems to be going away and I did feel itchy for awhile but thats gone too. I hope the bloat goes away soon. Anyone else feel this way? |

I was on tri-sprintec for 8 months and found there were no long term side effects except for feeling a little bloated. The best way to fix that is stay hydrated and to cut down the sodium (salt) intake. When I first went on it I felt sick and was very emotional, but it went away after less than a week. My boobs did get quite a bit bigger though, which i guess wasnt really bad . One very important thing is to take it with food and water and dont take it before bed, as for some reason it seems to make you feel sicker(a few of my friends and I figured this out). |
