]Action/Kinetics:
GI effects more pronounced than other antihistamines. Moderate sedative effects and low to no anticholinergic activity. Duration: 4-6 hr.
Contraindications:
Use in neonates.
Special Concerns:
Safe use during pregnancy has not been established. Geriatric clients may be more sensitive to the usual adult dose.
Side Effects:
Low incidence. Moderate sedation, mild GI distress, paradoxical excitation, hyperirritability.

Tablet: 25 mg, 50 mg; Tablet, Extended Release: 100 mg
Dosage
•Tablets
Adults, usual: 25-50 mg q 4-6 hr; as little as 25 mg or as high as 600 mg may be given to control symptoms. Pediatric: 5 mg/kg/day or 150 mg/m2/day divided into 4-6 doses, not to exceed 300 mg/day.
•Extended-Release Tablets
Adults: 100 mg q 8-12 hr as needed, up to a maximum of 600 mg/day. Do not use sustained-release form in children.
