Action/Kinetics:
Enzyme replacement for those with genetic sucrase deficiency. In the absence of sucrase, sucrose is not metabolized and is thus not absorbed from the intestine. This results in osmotic water retention, loose stools, excessive gas, bloating, abdominal cramps, nausea, and vomiting. Chronic malabsorption of disaccharides may result in malnutrition.
Uses:
Oral replacement therapy for sucrase deficiency, which is part of congenital sucrase-isomaltase deficiency. Safe and effective for use in children.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to yeast, yeast products, or glycerin.
Side Effects:
GI: Abdominal pain, N&V;, diarrhea, constipation. CNS: Insomnia, headache, nervousness. Miscellaneous: Hypersensitivity reactions, dehydration.

Dosage
•Solution
Treat sucrase deficiency.
Clients 15 kg or less: 1 mL (8500 IU)--1 full measuring scoop or 22 drops per meal or snack. Clients over 15 kg: 2 mL (17,000 IU)--2 full measuring scoops or 44 drops per meal or snack. Dosage may be measured with the 1 mL measuring scoop provided or by drop count method using the guide of 1 mL equals 22 drops from the sacrosidase container tip. |
