Onset: 2 hr. Peak effect: 4-6 hr. Duration: 6-12 hr. t1/2: 5.6-14.8 hr.
Additional Uses:
Microzide is available for once-daily, low-dose treatment for hypertension.
Special Concerns:
Geriatric clients may be more sensitive to the usual adult dose.
Additional Side Effects:
CV: Allergic myocarditis, hypotension. Dermatologic: Alopecia, exfoliative dermatitis, toxic epidermal necrolysis erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Miscellaneous: Anaphylactic reactions, respiratory distress including pneumonitis and pulmonary edema.
How Supplied:
Capsule: 12.5 mg; Solution: 50 mg/5 mL; Tablet: 25 mg, 50 mg, 100 mg
Dosage
•Oral Solution, Tablets
Diuretic.
Adults, initial: 25-200 mg/day for several days until dry weight is reached; then, 25-100 mg/day or intermittently. Some clients may require up to 200 mg/day.
Antihypertensive.
Adults, initial: 25 mg/day as a single dose. The dose may be increased to 50 mg/day in one to two doses. Doses greater than 50 mg may cause significant reductions in serum potassium. Pediatric, under 6 months: 3.3 mg/kg/day in two doses; up to 2 years of age: 12.5-37.5 mg/day in two doses; 2-12 years of age: 37.5-100 mg/day in two doses. |
