]Action/Kinetics:
Moderate anticholinergic activity and low sedative effects. Onset: 15-30 min. Duration: 3-6 hr.
Uses:
Hypersensitivity reactions: Perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, uncomplicated allergic skin reactions of urticaria and angioedema, allergic reactions to blood or plasma, cold urticaria, adjunct to treat anaphylaxis, dermographism. Investigational: Stimulate appetite in anorexia nervosa and for cachexia associated with cancer. Vascular cluster headaches.
Additional Contraindications:
Glaucoma, urinary retention.
Special Concerns:
Geriatric clients may be more sensitive to the usual adult dose.
Additional Side Effects:
Increased appetite.
Laboratory Test Alterations:
Serum amylase and prolactin if given with thyroid-releasing hormone.

Syrup: 2 mg/5 mL; Tablet: 4 mg
Dosage
•Syrup, Tablets
Hypersensitivity reactions.
Adults, initial: 4 mg q 8 hr; then, 4-20 mg/day, not to exceed 0.5 mg/kg/day. Pediatric, 2-6 years: 2 mg q 8-12 hr, not to exceed 12 mg/day; 6-14 years: 4 mg q 8-12 hr, not to exceed 16 mg/day.
Appetite stimulant.
Adults: 4 mg t.i.d. with meals. Pediatric, 6-14 years, initial: 2 mg t.i.d.-q.i.d. with meals; then, reduce dose to 4 mg t.i.d. Pediatric, 2-6 years, initial: 2 mg t.i.d. with meals; then, dose may be increased to a total of 8 mg/day.
